REGULATIONS on Wassily Leontief medal
«For achievements in economy»

 

To meet the challenges facing the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in Russian economy development – creating favorable climate for science development, improving the state well-being, supporting and encouraging the most talented scientists and experts in economic science and market economy development – the Presidium of the Academy established a medal in name of Wassily Leontief «For Achievements in Economy».

  1. The Wassily Leontief Medal shall be awarded to:

  • the scientists and the experts who have brought a significant contribution to development of the economic theory and the theory of market economy development;

  • the practitioners who have created and managed conditions for market economy development, competitive production output, favorable conditions for regional development;

  • the specialists in the field of production and social conditions management who have facilitated the welfare improvement of a region.

  1. The medal shall be awarded by the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences on the recommendation of the awards commission considering the eligible nominees recommended by the sections, Members of the Academy and Leontief Foundation.

  2. The Medal Winners should actively participate in the Academy work,; perform charity work on Academy constitutional provisions and publishing.

  3. The medal shall be accompanied by an honorary diploma of the established pattern.

  4. The medal shall be worn on the left breast.

SUMMARY

Wassily Leontief Medal “For Achievements in Economy”
Rewarding Ceremonies and the Medal laureates nominated by the Leontief Centre

 

A medal in name of Wassily Leontief For Achievements in Economy” was established by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 2002 in cooperation with the International Centre for Social and Economic Research Leontief Centre. The medal is given to the scientists, statespersons, and practitioners in recognition of their outstanding contributions to economic science development and Russian economy reforming. The medal shall be awarded by the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences on the recommendation of the awards commission considering the eligible nominees recommended by the sections, Members of the Academy and ICSER Leontief Centre.

The First Rewarding Ceremony was held in the Mariinsky Palace on September 16-18, 2003 in the framework of the International Symposium “Prize Winners in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel and Russian Economic Schools” under the auspices of the Legislative Assembly. The Medal 2003 recipients nominated by the ICSER Leontief Centre are:

  • Evgeny Gavrilenkov, Lead Economist of the Troika-Dialog Private Investment Company;

  • Irina Eliseeva, Head of the Department of Economics and Statistics, St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance;

  • Andrey Illarionov, Advisor of the RF President;

  • Volodar Feodoritov, Department of Economy Theory; St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance.

 

The Second Rewarding Ceremony was timed to coincide with the St. Petersburg Economic Forum – 2004 and was held on June 18, 2004. It was organized by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the International Centre for Social and Economic Research Leontief Centre in cooperation with the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg.

 

The Medal 2004 recipients nominated by the ICSER Leontief Centre are:

  • Masaaki Kuboniva, Professor, Director of the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University, Japan;

  • Mikhail Dmitriev, Scientific Advisor, Center for Strategic Research;

  • Abel Aganbegyan, Academician, Russian Academy of Sciences;

  • Oganes Oganyan, Chairman of the Committee for Economic Policy, Entrepreneurship and Property, Council of Federation, RF;

  • Viktor Esipov, Doctor of Economic Science, Head of the Price Formation Department, St. Petersburg State University of Economic and Finance.

 

The nominees and guests were welcomed by:

  • Mikhail Lychagin, Assistant of the Plenipotentiary of the RF President in NWR; Office of the Plenipotentiary of the RF President in the North-West Federal Region;

  • Vadim Tyulpanov, Chairman of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly and Yury Gladkov, Deputy Chairman of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly,  St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly

  • Mikhail Brodsky, Member of St. Petersburg Government – Representative of St. Petersburg Governor in Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, recipient of the Wassily Leontief Medal For Achievements in Economy, St. Petersburg Government

  • Sergey Vasiliev, Chairman of the Committee on Financial Markets and Currency Circulation, Council of Federation RF Federal Assembly; Chairman of Academic Board, ICSER Leontief Centre, laureate of Wassily Leontief Medal for Achievements of in Economy, Council of Federation

 

The Third Rewarding Ceremony took place in the House of Scientists, St. Petersburg on February 11, 2005 in the framework of the fifth annual Leontief Conference “The Russian Economic Reform Issues” / Leontief Readings.

 

The Medal 2005 recipients nominated by the ICSER Leontief Centre are:

  • Lord Layard, Emeritus Professor at the London School of Economics, Director-Founder of the Centre for Economic Development

  • Boris Mironov, Doctor of Historian Sciences, Professor at the St. Petersburg State University and Researcher of the St. Petersburg History Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences;

 

The nominees and guests were welcomed by:

  • Mikhail Brodsky, Member of St. Petersburg Government – Representative of St. Petersburg Governor in Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, laureate of the Wassily Leontief Medal “For Achievements in Economy”, St. Petersburg Government;

  • Yury Gladkov, Deputy Chairman of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly.

 

Reports were presented by:

  • Abel Aganbegyan, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Head of the Economic Theory and Policy Department of the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation; laureate of Wassily Leontief Medal 2004;

  • Boris Mironov, Doctor of Historian Sciences, Professor of St. Petersburg State University and Researcher of St. Petersburg History Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, laureate of Wassily Leontief Medal 2005.

 

In addition, nominated by the Leontief Centre Anatoly Chubais, Ph.D., Chairman of the Managerment Board, RAO Unified Energy System of Russia; President of the Electric Power Council of the CIS, member of the Management Board, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs/ Employers (RSPP), was rewarded with the medal of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences on March 31.

The Forth Rewarding Ceremony will be held on September 29-30 2006 in the House of Scientists, St. Petersburg, in the framework of the six Annual Conference Leontief Readings. The nominees are Alexey Kudrin, Minister of Finance of RF; Yegor Gaidar, Director of the Institute for the Economy in Transition. Two more candidates to be nominated are being selected from amongst Russian and foreign academicians. Traditionally, the previous years' laureates and nominees will welcome everybody.
